Wikis Contribution Task Sheet 1

Key Learning Task Outcome

a) As you complete this exercise, you become informed about topic of inquiry in computer ethics, legal and security issues.

b) You will also learn how to use a wiki to build an information resource for other people studying this topic.

 

 

 

 

Overall task

The tasks are computer issues which affect our daily computer usage. It cover three main topics - ethics, legal and security, which we are use to hear or even experience it at one time or another. Each topic consists of wide area to be covered. You are required to choose only one area in every main topic to be described in details in your wikis. For background information, watch a video on one of the topic area. Evaluate and understand the message it tries to deliver to you. Check whether what it say in the video is true or not over the Internet and other resources. There are topics available for you to start on your wikis contribution under the Resource wikis page. You will begin by setting up a wiki page that contains an outline of the information that will be included in your information resource. Each member of the group will then do some individual research to identify information, graphics and links to include in your wiki. Finally, you will pool the information and other material that you have gathered by putting it into the wiki. At the end of the exercise, you should have an information resource that will be useful to other people studying computer ethics, legal and security issues.

  1. To get started, take a look at a video clip on YouTube to introduce our topics by clicking the link below:

2. Now, create the wiki page for this activity under your individual students e-portfolio. Name this activities as Wikis 1 followed by your name (i.e. Wikis1 Nur Nabilah)

 

 

3. There are many topics example under the three main headings. You can choose any of the topics from ICT & Society Module : Computer Ethics, Computer Legal and Computer Security in the Resources section. Below are some example of topics available:

 

  • Copyright and piracy from moral and legal standpoints.
  • Lack of security and its effects on industry/economy/government.
  • Malaysian Cyber law, electronic government law.
  • Phishing
  • Virus (Trojan Horse, Salami Attack)
  • Hacking
  • Security Measures (Biometrics, Authentication)

 

4. Next, you are required to prepare a short presentation using Powerpoint on your findings following the heading below:

 

  1. Topic of discussion
  2. Description of topic
  3. Example of use
  4. Importance to know about this topics
  5. Suggestion to use it OR Steps to avoid it (choose which is appropriate to your topics)
  6. Source of Reference

 

5. Later on, summarize your findings and prepare a presentation of 5 to 10 slides on the chosen topic.

 

 

6. Embed your presentation in wikis using slideshare.net. (You need to Sign up to become a member)

 

 

7. Start searching the Internet and the library for the information you will need to make your contribution. Remember to keep track of your resources for documentation later. All research must be cited

 

 

8. Your presentation assignment should contain at least 2 graphics and 5 links that is relevant to the topics of discussion. Additional information such as embedded video, audio, and other supporting material are most welcome to be included in the Wikis 1 contribution.

 

 

9. Lastly, write what you have learn from Wikis 1 assignment in your Thinking Thought section.

 

 

 

Commentary

 

When watching the video, try to understand the message behind it by asking yourself these following questions:

- What is the main topic?

- Which categories does it fall into?

- Why is this topic important to know?

- What necessary steps to take to protect ourselves?

- What happen to the computer if it infected our computer?

- If you have experience it before, how do you overcome the problem?
